Shadow Day

A Day You Don't Want to Miss

Shadow Days are a great way for your son to explore all facets of the Loyola Blakefield experience first-hand by spending an entire school day shadowing one of our students. There are specific instructions for registering for a Shadow Day at Loyola, so please read below carefully.

Before scheduling your son's Shadow Day, you must complete our online application in its entirety. This is so that our Admissions Office can optimize your son's experience during his Shadow Day and make the best use of the spaces we have available. Once your online application is complete, you may select an available date to have your son shadow.

  • How to optimize your son's shadow experience?

    • Encourage him to participate in class, to speak with and ask questions of those whom he encounters.
    • Encourage him to be attentive to the atmosphere as well as the lessons in a class.
    • After his Shadow Day, ask that he be reflective about the highs and lows and how his experiences compare to those at other schools.
    • Contact the Admissions Office at any time with questions.
  • What to expect during a Shadow Day?

    • Shadow visitors are invited to dress like a Loyola student: tie, dress shirt, sport coat (starting after October 23), and khakis or dress pants.
    • We provide lunch for him so that he can experience our award-winning Dining Hall.
    • Your son will be paired with a student host and experience a full academic day.
    • Parents may attend an optional morning Q&A session.
  • What visitors have to say...

    From Shadow Visitors:

“My host seemed like he was friends with all different kinds of guys.”

“Here, every teacher wants every student to do well. I didn’t see that at any other school.”

    From Visiting Parents:

“Loyola could not have been a more welcoming and impressive school. We appreciate the care you gave our family.”

“My son’s shadow say could not have gone any better. He did not stop talking from the minute he got in the car. He told me that it is clear that Loyola strives for academic excellence and that this sets it apart from the other schools he has visited. He also said the English teacher he observed was the best teacher he has ever seen and it was the ‘best class ever.’ Thank you for making him feel for welcome.”
