The Ricci Experience, named after the Italian Jesuit priest Matteo Ricci, S.J., who founded the Jesuit China mission in the late 1500s, is an interdisciplinary academic program designed to expose our Dons to Chinese culture. The experience was created by history teacher Sam Manelski and Assistant Principal for Academics Brian Marana '00 during the summer of 2016 and first implemented for students during the 2016-17 school year. At the heart of the program is a two-week excursion to China in collaboration with The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies, the only Jesuit-run study-abroad institution in China. While abroad, students will visit key historical and religious sites in Beijing and Shanghai. In conjunction with the trip, students are required to complete related coursework for which they will receive academic credit in both history and theology.
