Cyber Dons Place in 2018 Maryland Cyber Challenge

On Tuesday, October 9, our Cyber Dons traveled to the Hyatt Regency in downtown Baltimore to take part in the live finals of the 2018 Maryland Cyber Challenge—a cybersecurity competition that began back in mid-August.

The competition is combined with the CyberMaryland Conference with industry leaders in cybersecurity from all over the world meeting in Baltimore for two days.

Collegiate and high school teams that qualified for the final round from across the U.S. were present. Students were asked to solve a wide variety of cybersecurity challenges over a six-hour period. Our program qualified four teams for the finals, and our senior team of Henry Erdman, Jake Sanft, Grant Hewett, Anthony Bradley, and Nick Froehlinger captured second place overall.

These students walked away with a cash prize, software licensing, and an internship with Dreamport—a new startup in partnership with U.S. Cyber Command. The total prize package for the team was just over $100,000.
