Ignatian Ministries Hosts Second Annual Neighbors Retreat

Twenty-one students and nine faculty members attended the second annual Neighbors Retreat at Sandy Cove Ministries, a Christian Retreat Center located on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay in North East, MD, from September 13–15.

Retreatants were members of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes. For this second year, eight students returned as student leaders, delivering talks and facilitating discussions on the theme of what it means to be neighbors and build up our neighborhood in light of the reality of racial injustice.

This retreat built on much of the work of the previous year, with activities touching on topics such as exploring our identity, implicit and explicit bias, and creative ways to continue to live out the promises of racial equity in our own lives and communities. Students also enjoyed some fun kayaking on the Chesapeake Bay and the beautiful scenery surrounding the retreat center.

Special thanks to Mr. Justin White, Mr. Bernie Bowers, Mrs. Vonda Duncan, Mr. Brian Marana, Mr. Stephen Breit, Mr. Brennan Prodey, Mrs. Gayle Smith, Mrs. Szczepaniak, and Ms. McCormack for their wonderful preparation for and presence throughout this powerful weekend.
