MLK Assembly Highlights

We held our annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Assembly yesterday morning. This year, the assembly was organized by students of our Multicultural Club, who discussed, collaborated, and ultimately decided on the theme “Relevant Now.” To help bring this theme to life, the club invited Mr. Brian Stolarz to be our keynote speaker.

As the topic of mass incarceration continues to be discussed as a major component of racial and economic equality, Mr. Stolarz discussed his time as defense lawyer for Mr. Alfred “Dewayne’ Brown, a gentleman who was released from Texas’ death row in 2015 after spending more than 12 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Mr. Brown’s case is the subject of an upcoming Netflix documentary, and Mr. Stolarz highlighted the continued need for a more just system. Stolarz and Brown held a panel at the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice last November.
