Cyber Dons Make a Splash in CyberPatriot XII Semifinals

After a stellar performance in the state round last December, our Cyber Science Program advanced two high school teams and two middle school teams to the semifinal round of CyberPatriot — the Air Force Association’s National Youth Cyber Defense Competition — which challenges teams of students across the United States, Canada, and from DoDD schools abroad to find and resolve cybersecurity vulnerabilities in simulated environments. Our cyber students have been competing in this tournament since last October against more than 6,700 other teams.

During the semifinals, which took place over the weekend of Jan. 24-25, our high school teams, Lavender and Crystal, placed 15th and 16th nationally in the Open Division. Our middle school Dons went above and beyond this year with Team Giraffes placing 14th nationally in the Middle School Division. Unfortunately, the program fell just short of sending another team to the National Finals (Top 12) in March for what would have been the fifth consecutive year, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this program continues to be a powerhouse on the local and national competition stage each year.

"Our teams’ success can be attributed to two things: their drive and ambition to once again try to make it to the national finals and our student training leaders, Manny Spanos ’20, Henry Mackay ’20, and Aidan Brehm ’21," said Owen Quinn '20. "They did an outstanding job preparing our teams for CyberPatriot, and their work can be seen in the results."
