Loyola Blakefield Community Celebrates Ash Wednesday Mass

This morning, we gathered as a community to celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass and the beginning of the Lenten season. We were also joined by Mary Ellen Russell, Director of Community Affairs for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and Annette March-Grier, President & Co-Founder of Roberta's House, a family grief support center in Baltimore City.

Together, they announced a new partnership with Loyola Blakefield during this Lenten season to provide Grief Ministry Care Packages for individuals and families in Baltimore City who have lost a loved one to violence.

What will this partnership look like?

  • Our partnership will evolve over time, however, for now we will be gathering supplies to bring down to Fr. Josh Laws ’03 who will be storing them at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, and then they will be delivered in collaboration with Roberta’s House.
  • Participation in this is not mandatory, it is simply an invitation. Supplies can be dropped off to the Ignatian Mission & Identity Office in Knott Hall each Friday during Lent. We will continue collecting supplies throughout the school year, but we will focus on Lent to build a base of supplies.
  • We will also join parishes and communities in Baltimore City and beyond in praying at our school masses for recent homicide victims and their loved ones.

To learn more about this initiative, or if you have any questions, please contact our Director of Ignatian Mission and Identity, Brendan O'Kane.
