Multicultural Club Hosts Discussion about The Innocence Files

Yesterday, senior and Multicultural Club member Michael Nwafor led students, faculty, and staff in a discussion about Episode 8 of the Netflix docu-series, The Innocence Files.

Episode 8 highlights the fight for justice in the Alfred “Dewayne” Brown death row case. Mr. Brown, who was wrongly convicted of murder, was on death row for a decade before he was exonerated with the help of lawyer Mr. Brian Stolarz. Michael first learned about this case when he attended the Ignatian Solidarity Network's Ignatian Family Teach-In For Justice and saw Mr. Stolarz present on the Brown case. Michael invited Mr. Stolarz to speak at our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration this past January, and Mr. Stolarz accepted.

During the online discussion yesterday, Mr. Stolarz surprised Michael by attending and answering participants' questions. What followed was a powerful discussion about the case, the importance of seeking truth, and our roles as a school community in lifting up justice.
