Loyola Robotics Hosts Blakefield Robotics Challenge

The Loyola Robotics Club brought tournament competition back to our campus this past weekend with their Blakefield Robotics Challenge. Knott Hall was transformed into a battle zone as 26 teams vied for the competition's championship. It was an exciting day of competition that saw six of Loyola's eight robotics teams compete.

Three Loyola teams performed particularly well in the tournament. Team 7135C (Chris Magaha '23 & Connor Lockett '24) and Team 7135Z (Landon Dubois '28, Andy McHugh '28, Billy Novotny '28, & Cole Rohrbach '27) broke into the quarterfinals for the tournament, while Team 7135W (Ian Cumming '22, Ethan Floyd 22, Matt Mulhern '23, & Brendan Reiners '23) made it to the semifinals.

Also, two Loyola teams made their competition debuts—Team 7135E consisting of Henry Craig '24, Max Horel '24, and Matt Dallas '25, and Team 7135K consisting of Alex Buckler '26, Bobby O’Toole '26, Gavin Aumiller '26, and Nicholas Miller '26. Team 7135D, consisting of eighth graders Lucas Richardson, Nico Solano, and John Flukinger, improved on last week’s performance and continue to refine their driving skills and competition prowess.

While their robots weren’t competition ready yet, Greyson Boblitz '25 and Matthew Maraña '27 both assisted the competition by setting up the tournament and also helping to run the Robot Skills competition.

Finally, a special thanks to club co-moderators Ryan Bromwell' 91, Lauren Copper, & Dave Magaha, P '23, for their dedication to keeping robotics alive and well at Loyola.
