Congratulations to all of our Dons who were recently recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program and College Board National Recognition Program for their academic success! Read the descriptions for each award below.

National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists: Joe Balto '23 and Nathan Li '23

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announces the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists each September. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® Award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

National Merit Scholarship Commended Students: John Matthews '23, Ethan Rohd '23, Dylan Seymour '23, and Andy Wang '23

In late September, more than two-thirds (about 34,000) of the approximately 50,000 high scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise. Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

College Board National Hispanic Recognition Program: Benham Celaya '23, Evan Onate '23, and Stephen Cattaneo '23

Invitations to the College Board National Recognition Programs (CBRP) are extended to high school students who scored in the top 2.5% of PSAT/NMSQT test takers and who identify as one or more of the following: African American, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, or attend school in a rural area, or are from a small town. The National Hispanic Recognition Program recognizes approximately 5,000 Hispanic/Latino students each year from more than 400,000 students who take the PSAT.
