Annual Fall Food Drive Collects 20,000 Canned Goods for Residents of Baltimore City

Our annual Fall Food Drive in support of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and residents of the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood of Baltimore City was a huge success as our community collected more than 20,000 nonperishable food items over the past two weeks, surpassing our original goal of 15,000. Read a few more highlights from this year’s campaign below:

  • Last Wednesday evening, several of our Dons visited a local Walmart to load up on last-minute canned goods. Rumor has it they spent well over $1,000 that evening. They even received a few donations from fellow shoppers.

  • Last Thursday after school, students from every homeroom on campus delivered the food items to Sheridan Hall for organizing and packaging. It was a sight to behold as so many Dons strolled down Weetenkamp Way with their donations.

  • This past Monday, a group of students, faculty, and staff loaded up the items and delivered them to St. Gregory’s. Special thanks to Alan Klug '93, P '21, '23, '25, for once again supplying a 1-800-GOT-JUNK truck to transport the goods.

Also, new to campus this year, we have started our own permanent food pantry in the basement of Sheridan Hall, which will provide much needed donations to St. Gregory's each month going forward. Donations can be dropped off every Wednesday. Special thanks to our Director of Ignatian Service Mrs. Beth Ann Szczepaniak and members of our Facilities team for their continued work on this project.
