SWIM TEAM READY FOR MIAA CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER BUSY FEW WEEKS

The Loyola Blakefield Swim Team is favored to win another MIAA Championship on Saturday, February 4, at McDonogh.

The team placed fourth overall at the 2017 National Catholic Swimming & Diving Championship hosted by Loyola University Maryland on January 21 & 22. Sophomore William Pelton won the 100m Backstroke with an All-American time of 50.44. Will also finished 2nd in the 200m I.M., narrowly missing first place with a time of 1:52.80. Another top-three finisher was Loyola sophomore Matt Clark with a 3rd place finish in the 200m Free (1:42.40) and a 3rd place finish in the 500m Free (4:38.71).

Both JV and varsity defeated Calvert Hall on Senior Day, January 24. The following seniors were honored: Michael Pierce, Teddy Turrall, Jake Breschi, Conor Brooks, AJ Carver, Patrick Elfert, Ryan Jones, Jake Volk, Chris Plimpton, and Malik Mohanlal-Vargas.

Two days later, both teams wrapped up another undefeated dual meet season by defeating McDonogh.

The team held its Insignis Team Retreat this past weekend led by Campus Minister Brendan O'Kane. These athletic retreats were introduced this year to bring student-athletes closer together. “This is an attempt to meet students where they are, realizing the importance of the athletic team and the opportunity presented by making a connection between spirituality and sports," said O'Kane.
