LOYOLA ICE HOCKEY CLAIMS FIRST MIAA TITLE IN 61 YEARS

On Friday, February 10, the Loyola Blakefield Varsity Ice Hockey Team won the 2016-17 MIAA "B" Conference Championship at Piney Orchard Ice Arena in Odenton, defeating Gilman 9-1 in a rematch of last year’s championship. In addition to going undefeated this season in conference play (9-0), this is the first ice hockey championship in the last 61 years for the Dons (1956).

Loyola had eight different goal scorers including Logan Simmons (2), Joe Stafford, Jackson DeAdder, Charles Skinner, Jason Tucker, Patrick Meckel, Christopher Fiorino, and Patrick McGinnis. The team finished with a prolific 41 shots on goal, while goalie Austin Foster made 17 saves on 18 shots.

The young Loyola team hopes to develop as a unit for next season after graduating only one senior this year.
