JV RUGBY CAPTURES MIAA CHAMPIONSHIP, VARSITY FALLS JUST SHORT
On Tuesday, May 2, Loyola Blakefield Rugby hosted both the JV and varsity MIAA Championships at the Knott Athletic Complex looking to repeat last year's success as both teams captured the MIAA title.
JV faced Mount Saint Joseph in the early title game at 4 p.m. and came out victorious with a 26–7 win. This is the team's third championship in the past four years.
Varsity played the later game at 6 p.m. and it was a close back-and-forth contest, but Calvert Hall pulled away in the end with a last-minute penalty kick to win 20–19. This is the 11th season that rugby has been a sanctioned MIAA sport, and of those 11 seasons, our varsity squad has a total of 8 appearances and 6 championships.
