BLACK STUDENTS & ALUMNI CONNECT ON CAMPUS

On Wednesday, April 26, black alumni, students, and families of Loyola gathered in Knott Hall to connect and learn more from each other regarding their experiences at Blakefield. Alumni in attendance included Ralph Moore ‘70, Tyrone Willoughby Jr. ‘87, Erich March ’70, Bernard Justis '80, Matt Fraling ‘80, Brandon Floyd ‘09, Jared Alexander ‘10, and coordinator for the evening Wesley Wood ‘88.

Director of Diversity & Inclusion Mr. Bernard Bowers ’78 said the night was meant to help build relationships between black students and alumni. “We decided to host an advocacy night where our black alumni would have the opportunity to meet and socialize with current students and exchange stories and give advice to create and establish relationships toward further communication,” said Bowers.

According to Bowers, the reaction from students and their parents was very positive. “There were good one-on-one conversation as well as group questions back and forth between the alumni and students.” Bowers hopes to host more of these social events for both our students and alumni next year.
