American Politics Club Hosts Dr. Faheem Younus

On October 18, our American Politics Club hosted guest speaker Dr. Faheem Younus, President of Ahmadiyya Mosque in Rosedale, in the Fr. George Lounge after school. Dr. Younus also serves as the Chief Quality Officer, Chief of Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Associate Professor at UMD Upper Chesapeake Health. He spoke about how his faith informs his politics and fielded questions from students and faculty on what life is like for him and his family while practicing Islam in America.

His daughter, Shireen, who graduated from Perry Hall High School and now attends Harvard, wrote a powerful opinion piece for The Crimson earlier this year titled, "I Am Not a Moderate Muslim," which details her faith journey over the years in a society that might not completely understand everything that Islam stands for.

Thanks to club moderators Pat Muth '99 and Brian Plunkett ’76 for continuing to organize these eye-opening experiences for our Dons, and to Dr. Younus for taking the time out of his busy schedule to help our students understand that there is more than one side to every story.
