Brant Hall ’98 Named Director of Athletics

Loyola Blakefield has named Brant Hall ‘98 as its new Director of Athletics. His appointment is effective July 1, 2018, and follows the 15-year tenure of Mike Keeney ’65, who is set to retire in June. Hall has served as Assistant Director of Athletics since 2012 and spent five seasons as the head coach of Loyola’s football program. “I’m honored to follow in Mike’s footsteps,” said Hall. “Over the course of his time at Loyola, we have seen success on the field with over 40 championship titles, as well as growth in participation. I hope to build off that success and lead Loyola Athletics to even greater heights.”

In addition to his work in the Athletics Department, Hall served as Assistant Director of Admissions from 2005–12 and spent nine years as Offensive Coordinator for the varsity football team. “I’m excited to continue building relationships within our community and serve as a mentor to our young men,” said Hall. “Winning is going to be a priority, but participation in athletics as a means to convey the values associated with our Ignatian mission and to form men of character is what will set Loyola Athletics apart from its peers.”

Hall emerged as the top candidate from a pool of more than 50 individuals. The comprehensive search, which began in the fall of 2017, provided opportunity for over 55 members of the Loyola community, including student athletes, to take an active role in evaluating candidates. “I’m grateful to all those who played a role in our search process, “said John Marinacci, Principal. “Brant’s experience in the landscape of the MIAA and his leadership as a mentor to coaches and athletes make him an ideal fit to lead Loyola Athletics. He has always stayed true to the values he gained during his time as a student and will represent Loyola with integrity and passion.”

Reflecting upon his time as a student and member of the staff at Loyola, Hall is certain that athletics will continue to play an important role in the formation of Loyola’s students. “Loyola changed my life,” said Hall. “Before I enrolled at Loyola, I came from a school that valued being a great athlete, but it wasn’t always considered ‘cool’ to strive for excellence in the classroom. As a Don, I learned to channel my competitive nature in a way that made me get the most out of my academic experience. I wouldn’t be where I am today without being formed in an environment where success on the field and in the classroom go hand-in-hand.”

Hall and his wife, Terra, reside in Owings Mills with their two children, Brant Jr. (9) and Chandler (6). A graduate of Lehigh University, he is currently working on a Master’s Degree in Sport Management from Lasell College and has completed athletic administration certifications via the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).

A three-year varsity starter at quarterback during his time at Loyola, Hall was named The Baltimore Sun’s Metro Football Player of the Year in 1997. He was a member of two tri-championship teams and one MIAA Championship squad. During his tenure at Lehigh, the team won four consecutive Patriot League Championships, and he was twice named 1st Team All-Patriot League. Hall currently stands as the winningest QB in Lehigh history.
