Loyola Blakefield Unveils New Athletics Logo

As the spring sports season is set to begin, Loyola is unveiling new athletics branding. Elements of the new brand will be phased in over the coming months. A collaborative process that began in the summer of 2017, the new brand is representative of traditional elements associated with Loyola athletics, as well as greater emphasis on the representation of our student-athletes as “Dons.”

“The Loyola ‘L’ has grown to become a ubiquitous symbol of our presence within the region,” said Anthony Day, President. “This evolution places greater focus on how our young men display the characteristics of a Loyola Don when they compete in athletics, and in how they represent the school within the community.”

Current students have conveyed the pride they associate with representing Loyola locally and throughout the country. Many point to the ‘L’ as a popular symbol and the Don as the model of how a Loyola student can best publicly convey the values associated with their formation. “Over the last four years, I have had the pleasure of competing for Loyola Blakefield,” said Brodie Holmes ’18. “It gives me great pride to travel the country and run with the ‘L’ on my chest because it represents a brotherhood of Dons that have come before me and that will come after me. It allows me to be a part of something greater than myself and gives my running purpose.”

Bill Stromberg ’78, who was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame after starring at Johns Hopkins University, looks back on his time as a student-athlete at Loyola as an opportunity for growth. “I really enjoyed representing Loyola in football and baseball,” said Stromberg. “It was about giving everything you had in service to your teammates. I grew up so much as a Loyola athlete and I hope generations of Dons will have the same opportunity.”

Brant Hall ’98 competed as a student and spent many years as a coach before recently being named Loyola’s new Director of Athletics (effective July 2018). “Being a Don symbolizes the pride that our students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and community have for Loyola,” said Hall. “As Dons, our student-athletes take pride in representing Loyola and everything we stand for, while earning respect from our competitors.”
