Loyola Community Takes Part in National Walkout Against Gun Violence

Several Loyola Blakefield students, faculty, and staff took part in the National School Walkout Against Gun Violence at 10 a.m. this morning in remembrance of the 17 victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, which took place exactly one month prior on February 14.

During the 17 minutes, students read the names and a brief description of each victim, and then offered a moment of silence and prayer for all those affected by senseless gun violence (watch the full coverage below). This event was open to all upper school students. Students who chose not to participate were permitted to remain in their classes or visit the chapel to pray for the victims. Our middle school students took part in a special prayer service in Knott Hall.

Next week, our American Politics Club and Office of Campus Ministry will be hosting several events to discuss gun violence and gun control in America, in which all sides will be equally represented.
