Several Dons Medal at MIAA Track & Field Championships

Our Track & Field team recently competed in the MIAA Track & Field Championships over the course of two days on May 8 & 11 at Archbishop Spalding High School. After the first day of competition, the Dons sat in third behind Gilman and Calvert Hall. Several Dons earned points including Hayden Roberts '20, Ronan Sullivan '19, Connor Verrett '19, and Camden Gilmore '19 placing third in the 4 x 800 Relay (8:04.42), Jordan Moore '21 placing third in the Triple Jump (43'5"), Ronan Sullivan placing third in the 3200m, and Gilmore was crowned the MIAA Champion of the 3200m with a meet record time of 9:18.

On Saturday, Aaron Ray '21 brought home three medals after placing 3rd in the 100m, 2nd in the Long Jump (22'1"), and was crowned the MIAA Champion in the 200m Dash (22.7). Gilmore was also back at it on Saturday, winning two more events in the 1600m (4:14, fastest time in the state this year) and the 800m (1:54, meet record and fastest time in the metro area) to complete the distance triple crown. The team finished 4th overall in the championships.

On the JV level, Keegan Pross '20 won the High Jump (5'8") and Irenge Nkere '22 also completed the distance triple crown, winning the 800m (2:05), 1600m (4:42), and 3200m (10:11). Other notable performances included the 4 x 100m Relay (46.28) of Pross, Ugonna Okoronkwo '22, Maurice Barksdale '22, Micah Robinson '22 earning silver, the 4 x 200m Relay (1:37.66) of Pross, Okoronkwo, Robinson, and Ryan Nickel '22 earning silver, the 4 x 400m (3:44.02) of JD Funck '20, Kevin Blanchard '22, Nickel, and David Adebogun '22 earning bronze, and the 4 x 800m Relay (8:50.98) of Nkere, Funck, Pat Filar '20, and Ian Rego '22 also taking bronze. JV ended with a 4th place finish overall.
 
"We are very proud of the efforts from all of the boys this season," said Coach Cucuzzella. "They continue to to be successful against the best performers in the state year after year."

During the team's annual awards banquet on May 20, Frankie Andrews '19 received the Coach's Award, Camden Gilmore was named Team MVP, Andrew Ray was named MVP in Sprints, and Aaron Ray was named MVP in Field.
