Loyola Blakefield Presidential Search Update | December 2022

On December 14, the Loyola Blakefield Board of Trustees released an update on the search process to identify the school's next President. View the message in its entirety below. We invite you to visit our President Search page to stay updated on all information regarding this process.

Dear Alumni, Families, and Friends,

As the end of the calendar year approaches, we would like to provide an update regarding the search process to identify Loyola Blakefield’s next President. Per the announcement issued in November, Mr. Anthony Day’s tenure will conclude in June of 2023.

As defined by its charter and consistent with its governance role, hiring the school's President is the primary responsibility of Loyola’s Board of Trustees. As such, we will facilitate a thoughtful, collaborative, and prayerful process that seeks input from the school community and the Jesuit East Province. We have also hired DRG Talent, a national leader in education consulting and private school leadership searches, to assist with this process. In addition to research-based best practices and experience in placing school leaders in prestigious faith-based schools, DRG brings an array of resources to help us facilitate a thoughtful, thorough, and inclusive search.

We would also like to introduce you to our Search Committee, which comprises the members of the Board's Nominating & Governance Committee with representation from the school's Leadership Team:

Dan Cahill '81, Search Committee Chair & Vice Chair, Board of Trustees
Victor DeSantis '78
Maru Fava
Wayne Gioioso '78, Chair, Board of Trustees
John Leahy '75
Hon. Albert Matricciani '65
Colonel Percy Moore, USMC, Ret.
Robert Robinson, Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer

The Committee meets regularly and is responsible for working closely with DRG on all aspects of the search process, including providing updates to the community, gathering relevant constituent insights, and evaluating candidates. The Committee will identify leading candidates and make a formal recommendation on the finalist of choice to the Board of Trustees.

To optimize our candidate pool and align ourselves with a placement cycle consistent with head of school searches, we have elected to employ an interim leadership model for the 2023–24 school year. We have identified a proven leader who is deeply devoted to our mission, well known throughout our extended community, and an enthusiastic ambassador for our mission. We are pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees has unanimously selected John Stewart '60 as Interim President effective July 1, 2023. He has graciously agreed to serve in this role until a permanent President is in place, which we anticipate to occur on or before July 1, 2024.

John is currently serving as Special Assistant to the President on a part-time basis, primarily focused on assisting with alumni and benefactor outreach. He played a leading role in the success of the Ignite capital campaign as an Honorary Chair. Most notably, John devoted 47 years of service to Loyola as teacher, coach, and Dean of Students. Please join us in supporting John's interim role as he works closely with the Board and Leadership Team to ensure that we maintain momentum and continue our community-wide commitment to excellence.

We eagerly anticipate the critical next steps in this process, which include engaging with constituents regarding leadership and the future of Loyola Blakefield, beginning to build a candidate pool, and setting our sights on the next exciting chapter in the history of our beloved school.

In order to stay fully engaged with this search, please refer to our President Search page, which will be updated regularly with pertinent information regarding our process, timeline, and opportunities for you to be a part of this meaningful work.

For now, we wish you a Merry Christmas and abundant blessings in the New Year!

AMDG,

Wayne Gioioso Jr. '78
