John Sullivan '72 Publishes New Book

John Sullivan '72, who writes as JC Sullivan, recently had his comedy heist novel, Shark and Octopus, published by Adelaide Books Publishing House.

John is the youngest of four boys who all attended Loyola (Rich '63, Joe '65, and Jerry '67). While at Loyola, he played basketball on Jerry Savage's first Catholic League championship team. During his senior year at Loyola College, he coached the Loyola Blakefield freshman basketball team. A lifelong Baltimorean, John has worked as a lawyer for more than three decades.

One interesting fact is that he grew up just three blocks from the late Tom Clancy '65, the all-time bestselling Loyola-educated writer. Tom mentions John's father in his novel Patriot Games. In the novel, the main character, Jack Ryan, is having a conversation with, of all people, the Queen of England. Jack Ryan describes for the Queen what it’s like to grow up in a Baltimore row house neighborhood with Irish FBI agents with names like Sullivan. That was John's father, Richard Sullivan. In Shark and Octopus, John returns the favor and mentions Tom Clancy’s dad, who was the neighborhood letter carrier.

John's writing has appeared in the Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor, as well as literary journals in this country and abroad. He has two daughters, Meredith and Kira. Shark and Octopus is the first novel published in his Griffin Gilmore series of novels. The prequel, Freeze Tag, is underway.
