A Message from President Day Regarding the 2020-21 School Year

Dear Families,

As we approach the conclusion of the academic year, we also look ahead to Fall 2020. While our nation has made progress in the fight against COVID-19, there remain several obstacles to daily life resuming in a "business-as-usual" fashion.

So as family, social, work, and school routines hang in the balance, the question of what the learning environment will look like in the fall weighs heavily on our minds. We aren't alone in this challenge, and we will rely on guidance from state government, the CDC, and a newly formed Health Advisory Board made up of members of the extended Loyola community with medical, emergency management, and policy expertise. I look forward to sharing more details regarding the work of this board soon.

As we enter the summer months, we will be examining what the future holds in terms of on-campus instruction versus continuing to exist in an adaptive virtual mode, and we will prepare for both. When it comes to this fall, it is fair to say that all options are on the table. However, we know this: Loyola's school year opens on August 31.

As we prepare our campus, explore possible modifications to our schedule, and determine to what extent we exist in a physical and/or virtual learning environment, we will await guidance from government and health agencies while working diligently on our ability to continue performing our mission.

Playing a role in the formation of your sons is the greatest privilege of working in education. Their health and safety will remain our number one priority. How we deliver an innovative and dynamic education in the Ignatian tradition will rely on our ability to adapt to the demands of the current climate - something Jesuit education has done for centuries.

Please be on the lookout for additional communications as we wrap up the school year, as well as important updates as we prepare for 2020–21.

Thank you for your support and the opportunity to partner with you in the formation of your sons.
