Loyola Speech & Debate Off to Great Start on National Stage

The Speech & Debate season is off and running this school year with virtual tournaments replacing in-person tournaments for the foreseeable future, and our Dons are already having an amazing start.

At the National Speech & Debate Season Opener hosted by the University of Kentucky on September 12 & 13, which featured 240 schools from across the country, David Ruiz '21 and Mateen Kane '21 took fourth place in Duo Interpretation, performing “Minimalistic Men” by Spencer Davis.

At the Duke University Invitational this past weekend, Mateen Kane '21 took fifth place in Dramatic Performance, performing “Never the Bridegroom, Never the Bride” by Francois Clemmons.

Next up, our Speech & Debate Dons compete in a local scrimmage this weekend, followed by the Yale Invitational on Oct. 3 & 4.
