Middle School Robotics Captures State Championship

This past weekend, the best of the best in Middle School Robotics for the state of Maryland convened at Hereford Middle School for the Maryland VRC Middle School State Championship. All three of our Middle School Robotics teams qualified for the elite field of 24 teams. Some teams traveled from as far west as Hancock, MD, and from as far south as Waldorf and La Plata, MD.  At the end of the day, all three of our teams advanced to the quarterfinals. Read some highlights from the competition below.

A scrappy and innovative 7135D team represented by Lucas Richardson '26 and John Flukinger '26 fought their way to the quarterfinals before being knocked out of the elimination rounds.

Thanks to key alliances with a tenacious Ridgely Middle School team, the Loyola team of Bobby O’Toole ’26, Gavin Aumiller ’26, Alex Buckler ’26, and Nicholas Miller ’26 made it to the semifinals before being knocked out in single elimination.

Lastly, the strategic alliance that Team 7135Z made with an exceptional Hereford Middle School team helped them make it to the best-of-three championship match. After losing the first match, Team 7135Z consisting of Andy McHugh '28, Billy Novotny '28, and Cole Rohrbach '27 regrouped with their alliance team and won the final two matches to claim the 2022 Maryland VRC Middle School State Championship! By virtue of this performance, these three students have earned themselves an invitation to the VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas in May.

Please congratulate the following middle school students for a fabulous Robotics regular season:
