Peter Hopkins was meant for the role as Student Government President. He is an active member of the community in a multitude of ways, dedicated to serving others and always has a smile and a friendly word. After serving in student government since freshman year, Peter decided to run for school president so he could continue creating opportunities for the student body. According to him, “I wanted to bring more.” Peter has excelled in this role and has also served as a peer educator to our middle schoolers. Peter really values this program because, “it helps you make the best decision not the first judgement.” He particularly enjoyed the Peer Educator Retreat where Mr. LaBella and Mr. Lankford trained him for this role. “It means so much to me when students recognize me on campus from being their peer ed leader and say hi.”
Peter participates in the Ignatian Honors Humanities Program and speaks fondly of Mr. Keeney who advised him on his Cap Stone Project. He and a classmate worked with a Title I school in Baltimore City and even formed a non-profit organization to collect lacrosse equipment and distribute it to the students. They also performed drills to teach the students some skills of the game. “It makes me feel good to know that I am setting a good example for younger students.”
The sense of community and the lasting bonds with friends and classmates are Peter’s favorite things about being a Don. “Two of my best friends and I have never been in the same class but being teammates on the lacrosse field has kept our friendship strong.” Peter goes on to say, “it’s a great feeling to know that no matter where I am on campus or who I see, there is always a friendly exchange and a sense of knowing one another.”
This fall Peter will attend Trinity College where he plans to major in Economics and play lacrosse. We are confident his ambition, positive nature, and strong work ethic will take him far. Go and set the world on fire, Peter!
