    Football

    Varsity -
The Varsity football team opened their 2025 season with a long trip to Scranton, PA. The three-hour bus ride did little to slow down the DONS as the team cruised to a convincing 45-13 victory. Sophomore Quarterback, Carlos Spencer, looked sharp through the air passing for 260 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also adding 1 yard touchdown run. Senior Defensive Back, Brady Murn, had an outstanding game defensively with two interceptions and a ton of tackles in the contest. Kicker Jimmy Lazzati was 6 for 6 on his extra point attempts and also kicked a 36-yard field goal through the uprights. The team will travel to Georgetown Prep this Friday to take on the Hoyas. Kickoff time is 7:00pm.

Junior Varsity - The JV team put up a good effort but ultimately came up short in their opener vs. John Carroll, 13-21. Andrew Mazzuca led the DONS with two touchdowns.

    Soccer

Varsity - The Varsity soccer team started their quest for a 3-Peat with a 1-0 win over Good Counsel. The DONS controlled the action from the opening whistle but were unable to capitalize on some early shot attempts. Senior, Will Sharpe, put the DONS ahead with a goal in the '68 minute of the game.

Junior Varsity - After 70 minutes of action, the DONS and Falcons from Good Counsel could not separate from each other finishing with a 0-0 tie. Both teams were evenly matched and gave great effort along with solid sportsmanship!

    Water Polo

Varsity - This past weekend the Loyola DONS traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the Philmore Cup. Friday night they faced home team, Episcopal Academy, in a hard fought and close game. The DONS fell to EA 19-11. On Saturday the DONS looked to bounce back again Penn Charter. They decisively defeated PC 18-6. Lead by Sophomore, Fin Mitchell, they worked well offensively and defensively. Looking to keep the momentum going, the DONS beat Malvern 19-12. The DONS finished the weekend 2-1 and the Baltimore teams defeated the Philadelphia teams.

A great way to start the year! Let's continue to ROLL!!!!
  • Week 2

    Soccer

On Tuesday September 2nd, the Varsity soccer DONS made the short trip across the beltway for a matchup with the Concordia Prep Saints. The Saints proved to be a less than worthy foe as the DONS opened up a 5-0 first half score cruising their way to victory. Redemption was on the minds of the DONS as Concordia surprised last year's group, defeating the Blue and Gold 1-0. Senior EJ Southerland led the scoring with 2 goals, with Diego Hernandez, Baber Toure, and Brayden Kowalik each adding one goal. It was a great team effort as all of the boys participated in the victory.
Friday, September 5th, the Varsity Soccer DONS welcomed the Cavaliers from Archbishop Spalding to Connor Field. Despite controlling the action for much of the contest, the DONS were unable to capitalize on some point-blank scoring opportunities, and the Cavaliers took advantage of an early goal escaping West Towson with a 1-0 win. The defeat is the first of the year for the DONS and puts them at 2-1 overall.

The boys will return to action on Friday when the face John Carroll on Connor Field. Game time is set for 6:00pm.

    Football

After a stellar performance last Friday in Scranton Prep, the Varsity Football DONS once again hit the highway travelling to North Bethesda for another clash between Jesuit Schools taking on the Georgetown Prep Hoyas. The offense had a rough first half, turning the ball over four times but the defense was stout only allowing a touchdown on Georgetown Preps first possession of the game. Sr. Brayden Pross (10 receptions, 199 yards) scored Loyola's first points when he hauled in a 10-yard strike from Sophomore QB, Carlos Spencer. The DONS would go into halftime tied with the Hoyas, 7-7. The boys hit the field in the second half with a new energy, setting the tone early and putting on a dominating performance. Junior Carston Brown put the game away with 2 touchdown receptions in the 3rd quarter, while the defense continued their stellar performance, not allowing the Hoyas
to gain any momentum. Jr. DE, Sam Lavin, came up big when the DONS needed a play on defense. Sam helped control the line of scrimmage and was in the Georgetown Prep backfield all night. QB, Carlos Spencer put up quite the stat line completing 35 of 48 pass attempts for 478 yards and 3 touchdowns. The DONS took home the victory, 20-7. Their record stands at 2-0.

On Saturday, September 13, the boys will try to make it a Jesuit sweep as they host the Eagles from Gonzaga College High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00pm.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Brayden Pross '26
Please join me in congratulating Sr. wide receiver Brayden Pross for being named Athlete of the Week! Brayden's performance during last week's Varsity football game helped propel the DONS to victory.

    ROLL DONS!!!
  • Week 3

    Volleyball

The varsity volleyball team began its 2025 campaign with a match against rival Gilman in the Joseph Peters Performance Gym. These two teams have played some great matches over the years, and Friday night was no different. After a hard fought 5 set match, the DONS proved to be too mighty for the Hounds, taking the win 3–2.

The Junior Varsity Team also hosted the Hounds on Friday night.  What looked to be an easy victory for Gilman, after taking the first set with relative ease, ended up being a come-from-behind victory for the DONS! The boys regrouped after the first set and put forth a great effort over the final two, putting the Hounds to rest, 2 sets to 1. Coach Trzcinski credited the play of freshman Bryce Glenn as a huge part of the DONS success.

Both teams sit at 1-0 on the season.

    Football

The JV football team traveled to Washington D.C. to face the Eagles of Gonzaga College Prep. The Eagles were a bit too much for the DONS soaring to a 41 – 0 Victory. The DONS look to bounce back and get in the win column on Wednesday as they travel to Forestville for a matchup with Bishop McNamara. Their record sits at 0-2.

On Saturday, the Varsity team played their first home game of the season, as the Gonzaga Eagles visited Hargaden Field. The DONS put up a good fight, but could not keep the Eagles from flying high, losing 0-22. The Eagles defense controlled the DONS high flying offensive attack limiting Sophomore QB Carlos Spencer to a season low 78 yards passing. The offense was unable to sustain drives and missed out on some critical scoring opportunities. The DONS defense put up a good fight, but were unable to keep the Gonzaga offense out of the endzone. Senior DB, Brady Murn, led the team with 22 tackles. The varsity team is now 2-1. They will try to clip the wings of another group of Eagles, when they face McDonogh on Friday.

    Soccer

The Freshman soccer team started the season with a 4-2 win over the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers. Ben Spray-Fry led the team with 2 goals, while Marco Gold and Tyler Weldon each scored once. Great start guys!

John Carroll School visited Connor Field for a “Friday Night Lights” edition of Varsity Soccer. Unfortunately for the visiting Patriots, the DONS turned off the lights pretty quickly, dominating the Patriots in all facets of the game. The DONS scored early and often propelling themselves to a 7-0 victory. Freshman Brayden Kowalik secured his first career hat-trick with 3 goals in the contest. George Forakis, Diego Hernandez, Kannon McKenzie, and Chase Palmerino all scored goals, as well.

    Cross Country

The Cross-Country DONS participated in the Barnhart Invitational on Saturday at the Baltimore County Agricultural Center. The event had over 50 schools entered in the race, and senior Liam Stappert finished in 2nd place. This is Liam’s second top 3 finish of the season as he came in 3rd place at last week’s Seahawk Invitational at South River High School.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Brayden Kowalik '26
Please join the Athletic Department in congratulating freshman Brayden Kowalik for being named Athlete of the Week.  Brayden Scored 3 goals in the Varsity Soccer teams victory over John Carroll.  HOW ABOUT A HAT TRICK!!!!
  • Week 4

    Cross Country
The running DONS have been showcasing their talent over the past few weekends, and this past weekend was no different. The team competed in the Bull Run Invitational, held at Hereford High School, and senior Liam Stappert finished in 1st place in the seeded Maroon Division. Liam continued his streak of Top 3 Finishes, while becoming the first Loyola DON to win the seeded Division in the Bull Run. Congrats Liam, job well done!

    Water Polo
It looks like Eagles weren’t made to swim….on Monday, the AquaDONS proved too much to handle for McDonogh, as both the JV and Varsity Water Polo teams were victorious in their respective matches.

The JV team was dominant in their win, scoring a whopping 19 goals and limiting the Eagles to 1. It was an overall great TEAM effort.

The Varsity game was a bit closer, with the DONS winning by a score of 17-12. senior Andrew Cirincione and junior Charlie Will, both scored 5 goals. Junior Alex Bennett was the defensive player of the game with 4 steals.

Later on in the week, the Gaels of Mt. St. Joseph came to Blakefield to face the mighty AquaDONS. Once again, the DONS prevailed on both levels with the JV winning, 21-5, and the Varsity 23-14. The Varsity was led by senior Andrew Cirincione, (6 goals ;4 assists), Sophomore Fin Mitchell (5 goals; 5 assists) and junior Charlie Will (6 steals; 3 goals). The Dons look to continue their success this week, they will travel to Gilman on Thursday to face an undefeated Gilman team.  Both squad’s records are 2-0.

    Volleyball
The JV volleyball team traveled to East Towson to take on the Cardinals.  Although the boys gave great effort, the Cardinals were too much to handle, sweeping the DONS 2 sets to 0.

The Varsity Team would avenge the loss of the JV team, overpowering the Cardinals in every set. It was a clean sweep for the Varsity 3 sets to 0.

    Football
The JV football team jumped back on the road again, this time heading to PG county to face Bishop McNamara. The DONS were looking to get into the win column after stumbling in their first two games. Unfortunately, the boys didn’t win, but they didn’t lose either. The game ended in an 8-8 tie. There were a couple miscues that lead to 2 touchdowns being called back. The DONS will once again try to get on the right side (or left) of the win column this Thursday when they travel to Concordia Prep. Their current record is 0-2-1.

It turned out to be a long night in Owings Mills for the Varsity Football team. The DONS were overmatched by the McDonogh Eagles losing 45-29.  The Eagles offense was able to move the ball on the ground and through the air against the normally stout DONS defense. Senior safety, Brady Murn, once again led the defense in tackles with 13. Sr. linebacker, Jayden Harper, provided a spark in his first game back from a knee injury. In the 3rd quarter, Jayden intercepted a pass and took it back to the endzone for a pick 6!  The offense once again struggled to stay on the field in the first half.  After a promising opening drive, capped off by a Jimmy Lazzati Field Goal, the DONS offense went stagnant the rest of the half. The team continued to battle but ultimately were no match for the host Eagles. The boys host Concordia Prep this Friday.  Their record stands at 2-2.

    Soccer
The week of DONS vs Eagles Matchups, continued on the soccer field last week as well.

The JV DONS travelled to McDonogh coming up short, 1-0.  The teams seemed to be evenly matched, but the Eagles were able to get one past the goalie to secure the win.

The Varsity DONS faced a big test with the Eagles visiting Connor Field.  The Eagles nor the elements could stop the DONS, as the team raced past the visitors for a 2-0 win. In a downpour, the DONS controlled the action, playing stellar defense and not allowing the Eagles to get a shot past the Goalie. Seniors Jimmy Black and George Forakis each scored a goal for the DONS sealing the victory.

The roles would be reversed on Friday as JV soccer would prove to be too much for the Curley Friars on Connor Field, however, the Varsity team would be humbled in East Baltimore.

The JV team bounced back from the tough McDonogh game and flexed their muscles against the Friars with a 2-0 shutout. Great job boys! Unfortunately for the Varsity, the Friars prayers were answered, as the host team cruised to a 4-1 victory over the DONS.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Liam Stappert '26
Please join me in congratulating senior Liam Stappert for being named Athlete of the Week. Liam’s first place finish in the Bull Run Invitational was the first ever for a Loyola Don!
  • Week 5

    Football
The JV football team travelled to Concordia Prep last week.  After four quarters of tough football, the Saints were able to flex their muscles, winning the contest 22-6. Sophomore Andrew Mazzuca scored the lone touchdown for the DONS. The team will look to recover this week on Friday when the Gilman Greyhounds visit Hargaden Field.

Last Friday night saw the first edition of “Friday Night Lights” for the Varsity Football Team. The campus was packed as the DONS hosted the Saints on Connor Field on a beautiful evening in Towson. There was no shortage of fireworks, with the DONS getting the best of the Saints, 33 – 16. Sophomore QB, Carlos Spencer, continued to light up the sky for the DONS offense, passing for 280 yard and 3 touchdowns, while completing 16-26 attempts. Senior WR, Brayden Pross was once again Spencer’s favorite target, with 7 receptions for 132 yards. Senior RB, Mason Russell, racked up the yards on the ground rushing for 94 yards on 10 carries.

Defensively, senior Jack Wrinn started the scoring, returning an interception 48 yards to the endzone, giving the DONS a 7-0 lead before the offense took the field! The defense stayed strong, utilizing the “bend-don’t-break” philosophy, holding the Saints to 13 points and 255 yards of total offense. Senior Captain, Cole Mosier, led the DONS with 15 tackles, including 4 behind the line of scrimmage. Brady Murn and Sam Levin both added 13 tackles for the DONS defense. After the win, the DONS record stands at (3-2).  The team will travel to Roland Park to take on the rival Greyhounds on Saturday.

    Soccer
On Monday, the freshman soccer team hosted the MSJ Gaels, showing little love for the visitors. The DONS showcased their talents winning the match 4-0. Tyler Weldon led the scoring with 2 goals, while Rocco Smith and Kam Gaither each added a goal.

Later in the week, the DONS traveled to East Towson for a showdown with…”the other school.” Unfortunately, the other school got the best of us, shutting out the DONS 4-0. It was the first loss of the season for the freshman team, but they are primed and ready to bounce back next week!  Their record stands at (3-1).

The JV Soccer DONS made the trip to West Baltimore to face the Gaels of MSJ. For the third time this season, the DONS put up a good fight, only to end the game in a tie. The effort and competitiveness continue to grow with this group, and they are playing very good team soccer.

Unfortunately, Thursday afternoon on Connor posed a different challenged for the DONS as….”the other school” invaded Blakefield. The Cards were flying too high for the DONS to catch them, leaving Blakefield with a 3-0 win. The JV teams overall record stands at (1-2-3).

The Varsity soccer team made the journey to Irvington to face the Gaels last Tuesday. Senior Michael Leming scored what would become the game winning goal, giving the DONS a 2-1 MIAA victory.

On Friday, the DONS invaded East Towson with hopes of catching the Cards. Michael Leming scored two goals in a 2-1 victory, securing a great win for the boys. Calvert Hall was ranked 16th in the nation going into that game. It was the second time this year the varsity team has beaten a team ranked in the top 20 in the nation.

    Volleyball
The JV Volleyball team hosted the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers on Friday Night. While the Cavaliers may be dominate in some other sports, they proved to be no match for the DONS in volleyball. The JV team made easy work of the Cavalier squad, winning the match 2 sets to 0. The team’s record is currently (2-1).

The upstart Cavalier Varsity Volleyball program came to Blakefield with the hopes of cementing themselves as a rival “A” conference foe. The DONS provided their best Lee Corso impersonation saying, “not so fast, my friends,” taking the match 3 sets to 1.  The Cavaliers started the match hot, getting off to a fast start winning the first set with relative ease. The DONS would settle down, regroup, and shut down the Cavs for the remaining 3 sets.  The team has a win loss record of (3-0).

    Athlete of the Week
Please join me in congratulating junior soccer player, Michael Leming, as Athlete of the week.  Michael scored 2 goals in last Fridays win over the Hall!
  • Week 6

    Volleyball
The Varsity Volleyball DONS made the short trip to Brooklandville on Tuesday, also making short work of the Crusaders. The DONS put on a DONminate performance, sweeping the Crusaders in 3 sets.

Friday’s matchup was supposed to provide a bit more of a challenge for the boys, however, the traffic on 695 was the biggest challenge, as the DONS once again DONminated the Gaels from MSJ. In what many thought would be a close contest, the boys continued their hot streak taking care of the Gaels 3 sets to 0. The teams record stands at (5-0).

The JV DONS also travelled to Irvington to face the Gaels.  The DONS put up a good fight but the Gaels prevailed 2 sets to 1.  Currently, the team is (2-2).

    Cross Country
On Monday, the DONS hosted Calvert Hall and John Carroll for the first home cross country race. The boys ran well but came up short against both teams losing to Calvert Hall 40-15 and John Carroll, 45-18.

Later in the week, the team travelled to Lehigh University to compete in the Paul Short Invitational. The team had a good showing with 8 runners finishing under 19 minutes. Senior Liam Stappert came in 32nd place in the A race.

    Soccer
The Freshman soccer team started the week off with a home game against McDonogh. The DONS were able to keep the Eagles from soaring, winning the game 5-1. Ben Spray and Marco Gold each had 2 goals for the DONS, with Andrew Sadler adding the 5th. It was an all-around team effort, with multiple players contributing to the win.

On Wednesday the team would travel to East Baltimore for a matchup with the Archbishop Curley Friars. The Friars were too hot to handle, shutting out the DONS 2-0. The team is now (4-2).
The JV Soccer team faced off against Gilman, in another DONS vs Hounds battle. The DONS would once again tame the Hounds with a 2-1 victory.

The team would travel to Harford County on Friday to take on the John Carroll School Patriots. The offense would explode to score 4 goals against the Patriots defense. The DONS continued to be victorious with a 4-2 win. The team’s record is now (3-2-3).

Varsity soccer had a huge game on Tuesday when it traveled down Charles Street to take on the Gilman Greyhounds. Junior Michael Leming opened the scoring for the DONS, giving the team a 1-0 lead. The lead would hold until the final seconds of the game, when the referees awarded the Hounds a penalty kick inside of the last minute. The Hounds would capitalize on the opportunity, forcing a tie with the game ending 1-1.

Michael Leming would continue his goal scoring streak when he put a ball past the goalie in Friday night's matchup against Concordia. The DONS would control the action and get all the boys playing time against the Saints.  Final score, DONS 1, Saints 0.  The team’s record is (7-2).

    Water Polo
The JV AQUADONS wasted little time scoring in their contest with Archbishop Spalding. The DONS score early and often, drowning the Cavaliers 17-3. The team is (4-0).

The Varsity AQUADONS started the exact opposite of the JV squad falling behind the Cavaliers 0-7 to start. The DONS would fight back to match Spalding’s score tally, only to fall on a buzzer beater (which if we had instant replay would not have counted) to the Cavaliers 15-16. The Varsity team is currently (2-2).

    Football
On a beautiful Friday afternoon, the JV DONS hosted the rival Greyhounds on Hargaden Field. The DONS offense put together a good showing and the defense did just enough to secure the win defeating the Greyhounds 18-15.  Freshman Wide Receiver Justin Smith hauled in two touchdown receptions and Keegan Wengert added a touchdown to complete the scoring.  The JV DONS get in the win column for the first time this year!!!

The Varsity DONS and Hounds competed in the next chapter of the Charles Street rivalry. Although it was a very sloppily played game, way too many penalties, the DONS passing attack was too much for the Hounds to control. Sophomore QB, Carlos Spencer, continued the aerial assault throwing for 398 yards, 3 touchdowns and 35 yards rushing. Senior WR Brayden Pross was once again Spencer’s favorite target. Brayden had 12 receptions for 265 yards and 3 touchdowns!  Senior RB, Mason Russell, added a score on the ground.

Defensively, Senior Brady Murn continued his stellar play with two interceptions, including a pick 6 on Gilman’s first possession.  Notre Dame commit, Khari Adams, returned from injury to lead the team in tackles with 9.  The DONS defense was once again stout, holding the Greyhound offense to 243 total yards.  The teams record stands at (4-2).

    Athlete of the Week:
Please congratulate Sophomore Carlos Spencer for being Named Loyola Blakefield’s Athlete of the week!
  • Week 7

    Football
The JV Football Dons hosted the Saint’s from St. Mary’s last Thursday, and after a back-and-forth action-packed 4th quarter, the Saints went marching out of town with a victory 27 – 23.  The game didn’t start especially well for the DONS, who turned the ball over on their first three possessions of the game. However, the DONS would bounce back to cut the lead to 12-7 at halftime. In the fourth, freshman QB Tristian English, found freshman WR, Justin Smith, for a beautiful go-ahead touchdown pass with about 2 minutes remaining in the contest. Unfortunately, the Saints would return the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown taking the lead back with little time to spare.  The DONS responded with a good drive but fell just short of scoring on their last drive.

At the Varsity level, the Saints marched in and right out of the DONS lives with a surprising 50 – 35 trouncing of the DONS.  From the opening kickoff, the game just seemed to be in favor of St. Mary’s.  Whatever could go wrong, did go wrong!  After spotting St. Mary’s 13 points in about a minute and a half, the DONS bounced back with a nice drive ending with QB Carlos Spencer’s 31-yard touchdown to WR Carston Brown.  The  6-point deficit would be as close, and the DONS would get as St. Mary’s played like a well-oiled machine taking advantage of mistakes and turnovers by the DONS.  The boys continued to compete, but it just wasn’t our night.  The team’s record is (4-3).

    Soccer
The freshman soccer team welcomed the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers to Towson last week for a game on Connor Field.  After the welcome, the DONS proceeded to play some great team soccer beating the Cavaliers 4 – 2.  Benjamin Spray-Fry and Andrew Sadler both scored 2 goals.

The JV team had the task of travelling to Anne Arundel County to face off with Spalding.  At a school that is always a tough place to play, the DONS put up a good fight but fell just short 1 – 2.

Tuesday presented a great opportunity for our Varsity Team to snatch back a victory from an earlier defeat against the Cavaliers from Spalding.  The boys would do just that, playing some inspired team soccer and blanking the Cavs, 2-0.  Senior Will Wnek, started the scoring early converting a penalty kick in the second minute of the game.  Junior Michael Leming, finished off the Cavs with a goal late in the second half.

On Friday, we recognized our senior soccer players for their time and commitment to the soccer program.  After a beautiful ceremony, the boys played The Phelps School from Malvern, PA.  After 90 minutes, the teams tied the game at 1.  All the DONS were able to play and honor our seniors.  The team is now (8-2-2) on the year.

    Volleyball
The Volleyball programs made the short trip down Charles Street for another matchup with the Gilman Greyhounds.  The JV team played a back-and-forth match, pushing the Greyhounds to 3 sets but came up a bit short as Gilman won the match 2 sets to 1.  It was a great effort put forth by the DONS and the team continues to get better as the season progresses.

The Varsity followed up the JV’s performance with a slightly different result.  After looking DONminant, taking the first 2 sets of the match with relative ease, the DONS took their foot off the gas, letting the Hounds back into the match.  Gilman would take sets 3 and 4, sending the match into a “winner take all” 5th set.  The DONS once again found the right gear, dismantling the Hounds in set 5 to take the win.

Later in the week, both squads hosted John Carroll (not your traditionally strong volleyball program) and faced little challenge from the Patriots.  DONS 5, Patriots 0.  Yes, that was done on purpose!

    Water Polo
37-13, was the combined score of the 2 JV water polo matches this week.  The young AQUADONS continue to flex their muscles (or fins) against the competition.  It seems that birds don’t do well in water, as the DONS doubled up the Cards 16-8, and kept the Eagles from soaring 21-5.  Calvert Hall and McDonogh respectively.

Unfortunately, the birds from East Towson topped the Varsity AQUADONS 22-21 in an overtime thriller. However, the DONS would bounce back against the McDonogh Eagles with a strong 19-14 win.

    Cross Country
JV cross country outran St. Paul’s (22-36) and Archbishop Curley (17-46) in a dual meet.  However, the Varsity team could not keep pace with either school falling 35-22 vs St. Paul’s and 33-24 to Curley.

    Athlete of the Week
Please congratulate Senior Water Polo player Andrew Cirincione for being named Athlete of the week!  Andrew has played great all season for the AQUADONS!
