Loyola Blakefield Announces Coaching Transition for Varsity Soccer

Loyola Blakefield has announced a leadership transition for its varsity soccer program following the departure of Head Coach Geaton Caltabiano. In his remarkable first year, Caltabiano guided the Dons to a MIAA A Conference championship, secured a #1 state ranking, and was honored as the United Soccer Coaches Maryland State "Coach of the Year." He is now stepping away to pursue a new professional opportunity.

“On behalf of the Loyola community, I would like to thank Coach Caltabiano for his outstanding leadership and for guiding our team to the MIAA A Conference title this past season,” said Blake Henry ’98, Director of Athletics. “We wish him and his family all the best in his next role.”

Lucas Winters, a member of the current coaching staff and Loyola’s Upper School Assistant Dean of Students, has been named interim head coach for the fall 2025 season.

“In his short time at Loyola as a faculty member and coach, Lucas Winters has developed a reputation as an Ignatian educator,” Henry said. “His care for the boys and eagerness to develop them in mind, body, and spirit made him the clear choice to lead our soccer program. I am confident he will foster a culture of servant leadership while continuing to pursue excellence.”

Winters shared his excitement about the new role, saying, “I’m thrilled to be entrusted with leading Loyola Blakefield on the soccer field. The program has a storied tradition in Baltimore soccer, built on the dedication of the many student-athletes and coaches who came before me. The young men who walk the halls of Loyola Blakefield are intelligent, talented, caring, and future world changers. It is an honor to be part of this incredible community.”
