The Blakefield Players

The Blakefield Players

The Loyola Blakefield Players present three productions each year for the school community including a drama, a musical, and a comedy. Students audition for each play or musical and then rehearse after school for a six to eight week period before performing on two consecutive weekends for the general public. The Stage Crew builds the scenery for each production and students on crew also serve as the technicians for sound, lights and backstage for each show.

  • Twelve Angry Men

The first production of the school year is the play, Twelve Angry Men, by Reginald Rose, which runs from October 18–27. Following the closing arguments in a murder trial, the 12 members of the jury must deliberate, with a guilty verdict meaning death for the accused, an inner-city teen. As the dozen men try to reach a unanimous decision while sequestered in a room, one juror casts considerable doubt on elements of the case. Personal issues soon rise to the surface, and conflict threatens to derail the delicate process that will decide one boy's fate.
  • Once Upon A Mattress

The second production is the musical comedy, Once Upon a Mattress, with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. It opened off-Broadway in May 1959, and then moved to Broadway. The play was written as an adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Princess and the Pea. The production will run March 8, 9, 15, & 16 at 7 p.m., with matinees on March 10 & 17 at 3 p.m.
  • Lost in Yonkers

The final production of the school year will take place May 9, 10, 11, at 7:00 p.m., and May 12 at 3:00 p.m.
