• Academic Support Services

  The Academic Support Center (ASC) serves as the primary facilitator of academic coaching for students needing academic intervention. Students work with the Academic Success Coach to set strategic goals, connect with additional campus resources, and develop the study skills and self-advocacy strategies needed for academic success. Through an encouraging, action-oriented approach, the ASC also partners with National Honor Society tutors, Math and Spanish Study Halls, and individual teachers to provide additional content support. Through intentional guidance and support, the ASC helps students strengthen their academic performance and achieve their goals.
  
  

  Campus Content Support

  In addition to academic coaching, students have access to a variety of campus resources that provide subject-specific and individualized academic support, including:

  • Dons for Dons Tutoring
  • National Honor Society Tutors
  • Math Lab
  • Spanish Study Hall
  • Individual Teacher Support

• Upper School Academic Accomodations

  Students who have appropriate documentation that require academic accommodations are as follows.

  • Access to working with the Academic Support Center. 
  • Access to the testing center to receive testing accommodations per their Formal Accommodation Plan. 
  • Classroom accommodations are provided to the classroom teacher for implementation based on the students’ Formal Accommodation Plan.

  The following are examples of academic accommodations provided by Loyola Blakefield based on the recommendations in the students’ most recent educational testing.
  

  • Extended time for tests, quizzes, and in-class writing assignments (defined as 50% extended time) 
  • Double time for tests, quizzes, and in-class writing assignments (per documentation) 
  • Less distracting location 
  • Reader accommodation provided via assistive technology 
  • Computer accommodation for essays and short answers 
  • Use of a four-function calculator for math assessments 
  • Copy of teacher notes, PowerPoints, or other note-taking systems 
  • Clarification of instructions and assignments as needed 
  • Processing time to answer oral questions in class 
  • Preferential seating 
  • Breaks for longer assessments 
  • Other reasonable accommodations on a case-by-case basis depending on documentation 

• Testing Center

  The Loyola Blakefield Testing Center provides a variety of testing services and accommodations to support student success.
  
  

  College Board Testing
  The Testing Center coordinates Loyola Blakefield’s on-campus College Board testing, including the SAT and AP exams.
  
  

  Testing Accommodations
  The Testing Center provides approved testing accommodations for students with appropriate documentation. Using the Formal Accommodations Plan provided by the Director of Murray Learning Services, the Testing Center ensures students receive the accommodations required to support their learning needs.
  
  

  Examples of accommodations may include:

  • 50% extended time for tests, quizzes, and in-class writing assignments
  • Double time for tests, quizzes, and in-class writing assignments, as indicated by documentation
  • A less distracting testing location
  • Reader accommodations provided through assistive technology
  • Computer access for essays and short-answer responses
  • Use of a four-function calculator for math assessments
  • Breaks during longer assessments
  • Other reasonable accommodations provided on a case-by-case basis, depending on documentation

  Make-Up Testing
  The Testing Center also provides make-up testing for students who miss multiple days of school due to illness, a medical condition, or another long-term absence.
