Mothers' Club

Message from the President

Dear Don Moms,

I am so honored to be stepping into the role as your Mothers’ Club President for the 2021–22 school year. This August will mark my fifth year as a Loyola parent, which is so hard to believe. I have three sons, Declan ’24, Mac ’26, and Rory, a hopeful member of the class of 2030 one day. I am the wife, sister, granddaughter and great-granddaughter of proud alumni, and my great grandmother was a member of one of the earlier Loyola Mothers' Clubs in the 1940s. My husband, Dyer ’95, and I are so grateful to be part of the Blakefield family alongside all of you, as Loyola nurtures our sons into becoming Men for Others.

I have very big shoes to fill, and I have learned so much from the ladies who preceded me in this role. Hope Grenzer had the wisdom and wherewithal to always know the right path to take. Janice Moore always had an open mind as she met new ideas with grace. Sina Cook listened intently and her thoughtfulness knew no end. I pray that I can channel some of these strong traits as I serve the Mothers’ Club this upcoming school year.

Huge congrats to our 8th graders who are rising up to high school, and to our Senior Class of 2021. Oh Seniors, we held you close in prayer all year as many of your traditions unfolded off-script. But you kept one foot in front of another as you received your Rings at last; as you experienced a unique Kairos; as you celebrated a Preakness “Post-Prom”; and as you graduated in the Hollow, like your brothers before you, while your parents beamed with pride, and the cicadas sung in your honor. We salute your perseverance and we wish you the best in this next, hopefully more normal, chapter in your lives.

The primary mission of the Mothers' Club is to serve our Dons, our faculty and administration, and our community.  I have heard often that the Mothers’ Club at Loyola is indeed special. We support our sons, we support Loyola, and we also support each other. This year exemplified that time and time again. I am so thankful for the wonderful friends I have made through this extended family. I love being involved and giving back to our son’s school, which brings the best out of our young men each year.

I want to welcome all new parents and emphasize that every mother is a member of the Loyola Mothers’ Club! One silver lining of the pandemic was a huge increase in our attendance at our meetings since they were virtual. The Mothers’ Club meetings are held once a month.  We look forward to meeting in person again and we are keeping everyone’s busy schedules in mind!  Stay tuned for more details on meeting dates.

Summer Reminders:

Board, Class Rep & Committee Chairs: The torch has officially been passed, so if you have a binder to give or receive, please pass it on during the month of June so our team for the upcoming school year can hit the ground running!

Loyola Mother’s Club Facebook Page (insert hyper link please!) This is an awesome resource of information, a true lifeline at times as well!

Recent LAMS: Congrats, we will miss you, but once a Don Mom always a Don Mom!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions. I hope that you all can relax and recharge this summer with your families and that by the next communication I send, the cicadas will be gone! Looking forward to spending a joyous and fulfilling year together.
