Leaving a Legacy: Dr. Vincent "Doc" Fitzpatrick

It is with profound sorrow that we share the passing of Dr. Vincent "Doc" Fitzpatrick '68.

It is with profound sorrow that we share the passing of Dr. Vincent "Doc" Fitzpatrick '68.

A proud Loyola alumnus, Vince returned to his alma mater in 1979 and taught in the English department until his retirement in 2021. An admired colleague, beloved mentor, and dedicated Ignatian educator, he touched the lives of countless students and families during his tenure at Loyola.

After graduating from Loyola, he attended the University of Virginia. He later completed his graduate studies at State University of New York (SUNY) where he earned his doctorate degree.

Active within the literary community, Vince was a world-renowned H. L. Mencken scholar and author. He was also an avid lacrosse enthusiast who served as a team scout under multiple head coaches. He is survived by his wife, Carol, son, Michael '10, brother, Larry '74, and an extended family with many ties to the Loyola community.
