The varsity basketball team competes in the prestigious Baltimore Catholic League (BCL) — and also in the MIAA 'A' Conference. One of the six original members of the BCL, Loyola has won five BCL championships — and is the only school to win four titles in a row (1975-1978). The program has made a total of 14 BCL title game appearances. The legendary Jerry Savage, who coached the Dons from 1968 until 2003, helped create the BCL in 1971. He finished his Loyola career with 607 wins. Dons basketball alumni include Pete Budko (1977), Tony Guy (1978), and 2025 graduate Mason Ellison — the program's all-time leading scorer, currently a freshman at the University of Delaware. Ellison was named the BCL's Jerry Savage Player of the Year in 2025 — the first Loyola Don to receive that distinction.
Loyola Blakefield's head coach, in his first season, is Roger Garfield. He previously coached at Gonzaga College High School (Washington, D.C.) in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and Mater Dei School (Bethesda, Md.).
